Now, shall we start with the second edition?!
London-based imaginative songsmith, soothingly raucous vocal charmer and all around nice guy, Ali Ingle decided to have his very own take on Thom Morecroft's harmonious and vibrant acoustic folk song 'On All Night'. And let me assure you, it's a fascinating and colorful rendition.
About two years back, on june 8th 2013 Ali Ingle picked his top 3 songs for Dave Monks' show on BBC Radio Merseyside (and if I remember correctly one of Yarbo's - with sensitive and creative vocal lead Daniel Pye - has been among those), the Liverpool Music Awards were looming, in whose 'Male Artist Of The Year' category Ali has been awarded in 2012, and the world did neither know about whether robots dream of christmas or not, nor that there was a stellar EP in the making, rich in powerful melodic verve and acoustic melancholia, not hiding Ali's affection for subtle electronic guitar supplements.
His cover of 'On All Night' by Thom Morecroft shows Ali has been further drawn into the electronic guitar-driven side of music as of late - and it suits his witty and spirited compositions all so well. Recently premiered on Xfm, 'Hey Kid' takes the same vivacious musical line and delights with vivid and bright, electrifying melodies, haunting and brisk vocal harmonies. carpe carmina sure is excited to see what comes next for one of our all time favourite songwriters, and wishes him all the best for his second time in spain, performing at Riba Rocks festival later this year.
'I love the honest and beautifully written opinions on music that Carpe Carmina expresses. Nessi always says such wonderful things about me and in the bleakest times words can sometimes make a huge difference x'

You might have heard me referring to him as 'the voice' (of liverpool) a few times already - and pensive, soulful muso Thom Morecroft casts a spell on his listeners with soothingly throaty, ardent vocals indeed. Let's see if his cover of Ali Ingle's contemplative and blissfully melodious song 'Something About Jorj' enchants likewise (spoiler alert, Thom's rendition comes out as a charmingly sensitive and soulful acoustic performance, stirring its listeners tremendously).
Where has Thom Morecroft been when carpe carmina came into being?
Around early june in 2013, Thom Morecroft was over the moon with the feedback he received from Tom Waits for one of the songs featured on his second album 'Moon Moon Shake It'. Delighted to the point that he, a little later, decided to perform above mentioned song, 'Daisy' during his session with liverpool's renowned indie music supporting film crew and company Culture City TV, among carpe carmina's all time favourite composition of his, passionate and atmospheric belter 'The Beast'. After two albums with intricate and clever (acoustic) compositions have set a firm music mark, he was about to release a new single in autumn 2013 - dreamy, elusive 'You're Wrong About Me' - which, however, hasn't been officially released to date. The charming singer/songwriter delved into the country-folk scenery and presented the elated 'On All Night' in mid 2014 instead, currently devotes himself to gigging and to running an open mic night twice a week at the Jacaranda Club as well as a monthly acoustic session at Studio2 on Parr Street in order to support the (already vivid) local music scene of liverpool. Applaudable, isn't it?
"Carpe Carmina is the blogging vehicle of the brilliant and incisve Nessi Holt, whose passion for obscure, unfound music from across the globe knows no contemporary I can think of. A very Happy Birthday to Carpe Carmina!"
