EP review: Jack Woodward - Higher. A playfully thrilling and peppy diversity of sound, a confident constant in tonal style

Be our guest when we welcome back a familiar face to carpe carmina: manchester-based singer/songwriter Jack Woodward. And while some of you meet the 24-year-old for the first time (don't be tricked to believe that the artist's last name gives away his musical genre of choice; Jack might be rooted in the folk-rock-forest of acoustic-led songsmithery yet has grown up to the heights of pop-music-making in 2017), others most likely have become fond of the ardently anthemic lead single of his now released (eponymous) EP, 'Higher' a few months ago already (read the full review here). Certainly new to everyone's ears are runner-up 'Pray' confidently cavalier and shiny in style as well as hypnotically upbeat and heavenly uplifting in sound and closing title 'Seven Seas', whose infectious intensity and thrilling tonal swagger sure can trigger a surge of dashing enthusiasm in all of us ready for new beginnings.

With bright and breezy, energetic and gripping melodic appeal, further enhanced by Woodward's strong vocal lead (ranging from soulfully atmospheric tones to bold and glowing ones), it's hardly imaginable that you won't get acquainted to all (three) songs in no-time; more likely even, you will rush to learn all lyrics by heart so you can sing along to these emotionally vibrant pop gems that will, without fail, feel like dear old friends of yours soon enough.
